The world understood phenomenally is the collection of individual things which have their own independent nature. But I've come to think that individual things can be understood as the microcosm of the whole world. I concluded that, despite the randomness of things chosen, the choice of an objet based on this idea is  no obstacle to comprehend and to express the fundamental and essential nature of the world. Under this premise, I focused on the object of water. The water is the most common substance on the ground, but it has an particular property that can not be seen in other substances. That's because the atoms of oxygen and hydrogen for the water form a curved structure, particular form of bond, so-called "covalent bond". Through this bond, the atoms instable become water molecules with very chemical stability.

I considered the nature of the water in the form of  the curved structure through this bond as the essence of the water, "the vertebra of the water". Here, the vertebra represent the essential components holding now in the shape of things.

The water composed by the bond of oxygen and hydrogen is oriented toward the composition of the complete number of all the atoms in the universe, so the atoms lacking in each other combine and create a new structure. The bond of hydrogen* oxygen*hydrogen that forms the water molecules has an angle of 104.5 degrees and a curved shape. This imbalance in water molecules causes the oxygen to have a negative charge(-), and the hydrogen atom has a positive charge(+), which gives them a magnetic property. This is called polarity. Because of this polarity of the water, water molecules can combine together to form large blocks. So, the hydrogen bond between the molecules of water is called "hydrogen bond", and what we can see by touching the water is this hydrogen bond. Water molecules are lighter than air, so if they are not connected to each other, they become gas at normal temperature and all fly away. If the water molecules were balanced with straight structures rather than curved ones, the polarity of the water molecules would disappear and hydrogen bond would not be possible. Then the water will boil at 80 degrees below zero, and in our world, it will all become a gas and disappear. In addition, the water inside the body of life as well as rivers and sea water will become gas and disappear. We hope that this task of "the vertebra of the water" will discover the commonality of the existence and of matter in every world through the essential question of water by exploring the origins of life and observing the nature of water. - 2019, Sun PARK
