‘In & Out’
The world can be said to be a huge network of World Wide Web (www) threads and weft threads. www, the current indicator, the beginning of a domain address that informs each of 'I', indicates a figure in which people hold hands with each other. We living in the era of Untact become digital nomads and access countless networks every day. The brilliant development of science and the digital revolution led to a contemporary life with machines that replace human work and artificial intelligence that resemble human thoughts. I think it is the Retro that makes an effort not to forget analog thoughts and emotions even in this benefits of civilization and symbiosis with machines. In this network of connections from the past to the future, we must be connected through building relationships that were inside or outside. Through the medium 'string', I draw 'strings of relationship' in an abstract painting style. My painting began with an afterimage of a past memory and was formalized through long-standing thoughts. Among the faded memories remaining in my mind, there are the afterimages of a tree and the strings hanging from it. This string kept me in that space in my memory for a long time. In the process of expressing the space of memory in painting, I was able to heal myself and calmly look at the endless circulating life with flexibility after the turbulent time. planting strings on the canvas, I think of relationships, relationships between people, coincidence and inevitability, and repeated reincarnation. Relationships are a network of people. We can only see connections what we know, but there exists a huge network of connections beyond imagination in the invisible link until such a relationship is established. The visible relationship is nothing more than a momentary result of the network. This huge network of connections, which we hardly know, forms a circle and returns repeatedly. I express the network of such relationships through a medium called 'string' and leave my desired world on the canvas. The strings on my canvas are interconnected inside and outside. In my painting, various materials that support my thinking appear. Linear elements such that string, cotton yarn, wire, and electric wire are used for the ‘string’ that is consistently displayed on the canvas. This string is a symbol of life, any kind of string can be used and it can vary depending on the way I work and the way I think. I pursue a image of composition which shows materiality and abstractness well. Moreover, I am going to achieve a work that each different element on the canvas becomes one. These binary confrontational, fluid, and freely accessible strings can be explained in connection with 'Rhizome'. A line is a metaphor for life that connects and bonds all of us, and symbolizes relationships that we create in our lives. I define desire of life as continuous circle of past, present and future interacting within the code of relationship. Human beings are distinguished from the other creatures cause they can 'remember'. We, living new times everyday even in a rapidly changing world and repeated daily life, should remember every part of our lives preciously. We have to connect with the world while living a life, and the memories accumulated in the life create a person's life. Good memories create precious bonds, the bonds that are formed remain permanently and make the Lasting memories. 2022, Aryung
'인 & 아웃'
세계는 World Wide Web(www) 씨실과 날실로 엮어진 거대한 연결망이라 할 수 있다. 현재의 지표이며 제각각의 ‘나’를 알리는 도메인 주소의 시작인 www. 는 마치 사람이 서로 손에 손을 잡고있는 형상을 연상하게 한다. 언택트(Untact)시대를 살아가는 우리는 디지털 노마드(Digital Nomad)가 되어 수없이 많은 연결망에 날마다 접속한다. 과학의 눈부신 발전과 디지털 혁명은 사람의 일을 대체한 기계와 그리고 사람의 생각을 닮은 인공지능과 함께 동시대를 살아가게 했다. 이러한 문명의 이기와 기계와의 공생 속에서도 아날로그적인 사고와 정서를 잊지 않으려는 노력이 바로 레트로(Retro)가 아닐까 생각해 본다.
과거로부터 미래로 연결되는 이 연결 망 속에서 우리는 내면에 있던 혹은 외면에 있던 관계 맺기를 통해 접속되어야 하는 것이다. 나는 ‘끈’이라는 매체를 통해 추상적인 회화 스타일로 ‘인연의 끈’을 그려내고 있다. 나의 회화는 지나간 기억의 잔상에서 시작되어 오랜 상념을 통해 정형화되었다. 내 마음속에 남아 있는 아스라한 기억 중에 나무의 잔상과 거기에 매달린 끈이 있다. 이 끈은 나를 오래도록 기억 속 그 공간에 머무르게 했다. 그 기억의 공간을 회화로 표현하는 과정에서 스스로를 치유할 수 있게 된 나는 격동의 시간을 지난 유연함으로 끝없이 순환하는 생을 담담하게 바라볼 수 있게 되었다. 나는 화면에 끈을 심으며 사람과 사람 사이의 인연과 관계, 우연과 필연, 반복되는 윤회를 생각한다. 관계는 사람 사이의 연결망이다. 우리에게는 아는 범위에서의 연결만 보이지만, 그런 관계가 성립되기까지의 보이지 않는 인연의 고리에는 상상을 초월하는 거대한 연결망이 존재한다. 눈에 보이는 관계는 그 연결망의 한순간 결과에 지나지 않는다. 우리가 가히 알 수 없는 이 거대한 연결망은 원형을 이루며 반복되어 회귀한다. 나는 그러한 관계의 연결망을 ‘끈’이라는 매체를 통해 표현하며, 그 지향하는 세계를 화면에 남기고자 한다. 나의 화면에 보이는 끈들은 내부와 외부가 서로 연결되어 있다. 나의 회화에는 이러한 사고를 뒷받침해주는 다양한 물질이 등장한다. 화면에 일관적으로 드러나는 끈은 선(線)적인 요소로 노끈, 면사, 철사, 전기선 등이 사용된다 이 끈은 생명의 상징으로서 어떠한 종류의 끈도 사용될 수 있고 작업을 할 때마다 또 나의 생각이 머무르는 시각에 따라서도 달라질 수 있다. 나는 물질성이 잘 드러나면서 추상성이 돋보이는 구성의 화면을 추구한다. 또한 서로 다른 요소들이 화면에서 어우러져 하나가 되는 작업을 이루고자 한다. 이러한 이항 대립적이며 유동적이고 자유롭게 접속 가능한 나의 끈들은 ‘리좀(Rhizome)’과 연결지어 설명할 수 있다. 선(線)은 우리 모두를 연결하고 유대감을 형성하며, 우리가 삶에서 창조하는 관계를 상징하는 생명의 은유이다. 나는 생에 대한 염원을 관계의 코드 안에서 상호작용하는 과거, 현재, 미래의 지속적인 순환으로 정의한다. 인간이 다른 생물들과 구별되는 것은 ‘기억’ 할 수 있기 때문이다. 빠르게 변화되는 세상과 반복되는 일상에서도 날마다 새로운 시간을 살고 있는 우리는 삶의 모든 부분을 소중하게 기억해야 한다. 삶을 살아가는 동안 우리는 세상과 이어져야 하고 그 삶 속에 쌓인 기억이 한 사람의 인생을 만든다. 좋은 추억은 소중한 유대감을 만들고, 그렇게 형성된 유대감은 영원히 가슴에 남아 있게 되며 평생 지속 될 기억(Lasting memories)을 만든다.. 2022 아령
