SPACE - Light and Time
Many traces accumulated in spaces are the products of time. There are a variety of dualistic confrontations in time, which are endlessly repeated over time. Emotions produced from such confrontations are the 'responses from mind'. Mind is emitted through forms and colors. I regards this as Gi (氣: energy and spirit) and express the flow of Gi. It is necessary to sensitively operate the flow of Gi and liberate the of consciousness. The emotional key words appearing in my work include light and colors. I enjoy sounds heard from all kinds of light and colors. The vessels containing light are aluminum and pins. Aluminum contains many emotions by using reflection, absorption and conflict of light. Straight pins create large and small emotions, as they are soaked in a mixed solution and then dried repeatedly. The current working method is to connect, stick in and accumulate them. From the combination of them, fragments of beauty are derived. A monotone work exhibits solidity, as it encounters light, and it also become a moving color or a plane and amounts to chunk, according to the locations of light. 공간 - 빛 그리고 시간
공간에 쌓인 많은 흔적들은 시간의 산물(産物)이다. 시간 속에는 끝없이 반복되는 다양한 이원론(二元論)적 대립이 있다. 그러한 대립에서 비롯된 감정은 '마음의 반응'이다. 마음은 형(形)과 색(色)을 빌어서 발산(發散)된다. 나는 이것을 기(氣: 에너지, 정신)라고 여기고 기의 흐름을 표현한다. 기의 흐름은 예민하게 운용(運用)을 해야 하고 의식의 흐름은 자유로워야 한다. 내 작품에 등장하는 감성의 키워드는 빛 과 색을 포함한다. 나는 온갖 빛과 색감이 내는 소리를 즐긴다. 빛을 담는 그릇은 알루미늄과 핀이다. 알루미늄은 빛의 반사, 흡수, 충돌을 이용하여 여러 감정을 담아낸다. 스트레이트 핀은 혼합 용액에 담갔다 말리는 반복 작업으로 크고 작은 감정을 만든다. 지금의 작업방식은 더 이어 꽂고 쌓는 방식이다. 그것들의 조합으로 아름다움의 파편(破片)이 파생(派生)된다. 단색조(單色調)의 작품은 빛을 만나 견고함을 보이며, 위치에 따라서 움직이는 색과 면이 되어 덩어리를 이룬다. 나는 공간속에서 그들이 호응(呼應)하고 반응하는 모습을 통해서 무한함과 아름다움을 보여줄 것이다. - 2020년 2월, 예진영
Wind- Fully filled up
My work type was started from the process of self-discovery which was generated not from outside but from inside. The series of wind which are the theme of work contain my wish in which I want to be free. We can feel the breath of modern people's daily routine from the succession in which the surface of canvas is repeatedly lifted and filled.
Everything of canvas should be filled and emptied, which is the current orientation of my work.
‘Fully filled’ is the pictorial concept of space which is the same as the blank of oriental painting. The three dimensional expression in my work is considered as another interpretation and access of space.
Containing invisible things to the canvas, expressing what I see and feel, my work contains such a thing. There is few clearly expressed objects in my work. My works look similar if just looking at them. But every work has every different feeling So I feel like I will continue this work.
The clay and the cotton sticks that are chosen for my current work become standard units for the condensation of everything and a dot and make one form. The process of putting all these together and completing form is a journey of looking for me with clear mind.
Colors are often inspired from nature. I granted no special meaning to the color. We can feel our ethnicity from white color. White means both background and the work of art in my work. Western people recognize when other colors are expressed but we recognize white color with white color alone. My spirits exist in blue color. Black and white colors exist in blue color and white light shines in blue color.
I would talk many stories and also experience many things within my works now.
I would talk with flowers, listen singing of birds. I sometimes question about lives to the nature. Sometimes I tell or ask nothing.
The completed art work tries to extend the gamut of experience: visual to physical. When you look at the work from the front it becomes what the dots' superimposition made. However, as the viewer's position moves, all the dots that have stayed calm would then get up and then the form would break out of itself, making another form in a variety of expression that represents filling and empty, high and low. - Ye Jinyoung 13th October, 2018
바람-가득 차다.
나의 작업 방식은 자기 발견 과정에서 시작되었다. 밖에서 온 것이 아니라 내 안에서 얻어진 것이다.
작업의 주제인 바람-공간을 느끼다. 시리즈는 자유롭고 싶은 나의 염원이 담겨져 있다. 캔버스의 표면을 들어내고 메우고 들어내고 메우는 반복의 연속에서 마치 반복적인 일상의 숨결을 느낄 수 있다.
현재 나의 작업에서 캔버스의 모든 것은 가득 채워서 비워져야 한다. 라는 지향점을 가지고 작업을 한다. 이것은 역설적인 표현이다. '가득 차다'라는 것이 동양에서의 여백이라는 공간의 개념이다. 그리고 나의 작품에서 입체적 표현은 여백의 또 다른 해석과 접근이라고 볼 수 있다.
보이지 않는 것을 캔버스에 담아내는 것. 보고 느꼈던 것들을 표현하는 것. 내가 하는 작업이 그런 것이다. 내 작품에 뚜렷하게 표현된 대상은 거의 없다. 내 작품은 그냥 보면 비슷해 보인다. 하지만 작품을 할 때마다 느낌이 많이 다르다, 그래서 내가 이 작업을 계속 할 수 있는 것 같다.
이번 작업의 재료로 선택한 점토 그리고 면봉은 모든 것의 응축이며 모든 것의 시작인 점(点)이 되어 하나의 형상을 만들어 나가는 기본단위의 역할을 한다. 이것을 한 점 한 점 꽂고 붙여 가면서 형태를 완성해 나가는 지난한 작업의 과정은 허튼 생각을 비우고 나를 찾는 수행의 여정이기도하다.
색은 자연에서 많은 영감을 얻는다. 색에 둔 특별한 의미는 없다. 내 작업에서는 흰색은 바탕이자 작품이다. 서양 사람들은 유채색이 있어야만 흰색이 있다는 것을 인식하지만 동양은 흰색 하나만으로도 흰색을 안다. 그리고 청색 속에 흑백이 있고, 청색 속에 흰 빛이 들어가 있다.
나는 작품 속에서 많은 얘기를 하고 또. 많은 경험을 하기도 한다. 꽃과 대화를 하기도 하고, 새들의 노래 소리를 듣기도 한다. 가끔은 자연에게 삶에 대해 물어 보기도 한다. 때론 아무른 얘기도 하지 않고 묻지도 않을 때도 있다.
완성된 작품을 보면 체험방식이 시각적 체험방식에서 공감각적 체험방식으로 확장되는 것을 꾀하고 있다. 정면에서 보았을 때 작품속의 점들은 중첩(重疊)이 만들어 낸 형상을 드러낸다. 그러나 감상자의 위치가 이동됨과 동시에 조용히 머물러 있던 점들은 일제히 일어나 형은 점으로 흩어지며 또 다른 형을 만들어 채움과 비움, 높고 낮음의 무성한 표정을 만들어낸다. - 2018. 10. 13 예진영
