Silent Tremor : Lingering Traces
My work is a process of translating an unknown vibration, emerging from deep within, onto the surface of the canvas.
The ash-gray waves that lie at the foundation are the fundamental sensations that sustain my existence. This heavy, sunken trembling is the ground on which I stand—an inner landscape that I must confront rather than avoid.
Upon these weighty waves, I build new layers of time. This act of layering is not intended to erase or deny the past, but rather to embrace what already exists by placing the present moment upon it. Through these accumulated layers, the sensations of the past and the present coexist in harmony.
Between these layers, images such as the shadow of a plant or the silhouette of a figure appear. These are not specific scenes, but rather fragments of the time and sensations I am living through now. When the light of the present overlaps with the traces of the past, the once-rough vibrations are transformed into a tremor of a different texture. I call this state a “Silent Tremor.”
At the point where the indelible waves and the newly added layers of time intersect, I gaze upon the sensations that still remain.
I continue my work by interweaving time over these tremors that never disappear. Lee Nayoung 2026
