Introduction / Note
Starfield
Brightness is not the only one that exists in this world and in life. Light and darkness coexist in this world. Brightness has a meaning and value in the presence of darkness. But the darkness that blocks out the light, not the one that highlights it, must be cleared away, so that light becomes visible once again. Light is my very existence. There has been strong darkness in my life. The darkness fell upon my existence. I wanted to get rid of it, rather than aspiring to be bright. I believe when darkness disappears, my being would shine and glow. Light resides in all living and non-living things. All things and lives have light. Every light, both strong and weak, is unique and precious. Individual stars gather together to form a Starfield. Therefore, individual things are so valuable that they are indispensable when forming the whole. Big stars, small stars, strong stars, and weak stars all come together to form a huge field. That is Starfield. Everything that forms a building is valuable. If one of the small nails is lost, the structure of the building collapses. So is the Starfield. If one individual star is missing, there is no Starfield. What is important is to aware of this fact. Every being must be aware of how priceless other stars are. Based on this understanding, the precious individuals gather together to form a field of radiant beauty. It is a structuralist view that the whole can collapse if one part disappears. However, existing structuralism is based on a functionalistic and anti-humanistic standpoint. Since only the totality is important, the parts that comprise the whole could not have any significance other than being accessories. The structuralism I talk about goes beyond its existing structure system. The currentparadigm focuses on the “st ructure” as a full and and complete totality which is the sum of its parts, but the “structure” I present emphasizes the value of the existence of each individual part. Only when the significance of ‘I’ and ‘You’ is perceived, ‘We’ could also exist. ‘The Starfield' composed of the sum of the individual things, is beautiful because it gives importance to individuality. I dream of ‘the Starfield’ on earth, the solidarity of the individuals that shine out from the darkness. Sunhwa Kim (Simhyang) 2018

CEsthétique du silence
