WHITE RECORDS
In photos, strong lights turn up as white color, such as sun, indoor or outdoor lightings and reflection of wave ect. Therefor in my personal opinion, white color is the extreme beauty. I feel overwhelmed when surrounding by white spaces or standing in front of white backgrounds not because of the space but because of the power of ‘WHITE’. When I look at some white objects, cannot leave because I am stunned. While continuing to look white color or being in white room, I find myself to start having weird and strange idea and feelings. What I'm actually looking at is not white anymore. The perfect white is never holding my eyes as I start to search for something like small scratch and mark on it. When I observe them I start to care about them and cannot move my eye. I think white space or whatever marks on white space which holds my eyes are the essence of the beauty.
‘예쁜 사진’을 찍고 싶은 마을을 담아 _ WHITE RECORDS
사진을 찍는 사람이라고 자신을 소개하고 나면 ‘예쁜 사진을 많이 찍으러 다니고 가지고 있겠다.’라는 말을 자주 듣게 된다. ‘예쁜 사진’을 찍어야겠다는 생각을 크게 해보지 않은 나로서는 그 뒤에 어떤 말을 이어가야 할지 잠시 고민에 빠져들어 애꿎은 웃음만 지어보였던 적이 많았다. 이번 작업은 그 ‘예쁜 사진’에 대한 나의 고찰이다. 지극히 나의 주관적인 생각에서 흰색이 가장 예쁘고 아름답게 보인다. 흰 공간속에서 또는 흰 배경속에서 화려함을 느끼고 그로 인해서 예뻐 보인다. 사진 속에서 흰색은 마치 빤짝빤짝 거리는 보석을 보는듯한 기분을 주기도 한다. 한동안 난 흰색의 어떤 물체만 보면 다가가서 한참을 떠나지 못하고 관찰을 하게 되었다. 계속해서 흰 것을 보고 있으면 다시 이상한 생각을 가지고 있게 됨을 알게 된다. 실제 내가 보고 있는 것은 흰 것 속에서 다른 무엇인가를 찾고 있는 것이다. 완전한 흰색은 결코 눈을 잡고 있지 못하고 그 속에 작은 차이 또는 흠집, 상처, 흔적 이런 것을 찾고 있는 것이다. 또 그것이 보이기 시작하면 마음이 쓰이기 시작한다. 그 후 시선은 오로지 그 곳에서 움직이지 않는다. 그 강렬한 시선 끌림을 가지게 하는 마음이 아름답고 ‘예쁜 사진’의 본질이라는 생각을 하게 된다. 난 ‘예쁜 사진’을 찍고 싶어서 계속해서 흰 곳에 시선을 둔다. - 황인모
